And even if firms find the talent, they struggle with retention.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c9916a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c9916a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Accounting and finance, as a profession, is acknowledging the shift. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aicpa-cima.com\/news\/article\/aicpa-survey-cites-change-management-for-technology-and-ai-as-top-long-term-issue-facing-accounting-firms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AICPA&#8217;s 2026 CPA Firm Top Issues Survey<\/a> found that technology and AI change management is one of the top issues firms expect to have the greatest impact over the next five years, across all firm sizes.<\/p><p>So if you are building a firm today or scaling from where you are, what does a modern accounting firm look like?<\/p><p><strong>It is a firm that has redesigned how people, technology, and expertise work together.<\/strong><\/p><p>Here are the top aspects that comprise a modern accounting firm:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-78ccd0d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"78ccd0d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1. AI supports different aspects of a professional\u2019s job &#8211; research, document review, data extraction, drafting, reconciliation, workflow automation, and so much more.<\/p><p>But for a modern accounting firm, the tech maturity shouldn\u2019t be determined by how many tools are being purchased. Across several firms, this shift is widely visible. Another survey found that continued growth in Client Advisory revenue is one of the fastest-growing practice areas.<\/p><p>The 2025 AICPA National MAP<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aicpa-cima.com\/news\/article\/cpa-firms-report-steady-growth-in-revenue-and-profit-aicpa-research-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Survey<\/a> found continued growth in client accounting advisory revenue, while AICPA describes CAS as one of the profession&#8217;s fastest-growing practice areas.<\/p><p>A modern firm therefore isn&#8217;t asking only <strong>\u201cDid we close the books?\u201d<\/strong><\/p><p>It is also asking:<\/p><ul><li>What do the books tell us?<\/li><li>Why is margin falling?<\/li><li>What is driving cash-flow pressure?<\/li><li>Can the client afford to hire?<\/li><li>Where is growth becoming expensive?<\/li><li>What should management be watching next quarter?<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f86b815 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f86b815\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe accounting work remains important.
